Quilting

We look forward to designing and making your custom quilt or to long-arm machine quilt your own pieced quilt top into a treasured heirloom.

Quilt Preparation:

  • Be sure your quilt top and backing are squared up.

  • Trim all loose threads.

  • Trim edges evenly.

  • Quilt top and backing must be pressed.

  • If backing is pieced, please remove all selvedges and press open the 1/2" seam allowances.

  • Backing and batting must be four (4) inches larger than the quilt top on ALL SIDES.

  • Mark the "top" by pinning a piece of paper at the top of the quilt so we will know where to begin.

  • DO NOT PIN OR BASTE TOGETHER THE LAYERS.

  • Do not use bed sheets for the backing due to their density.

  • Backing should coordinate with the quilt top.  "Printy" patterns are recommended.

Helpful Hints ...

  • There are times when machine quilting can be expensive.  Please prepare your quilt properly.

  • Always make sure you have squared your quilt top and your quilt backing material.

  • If there are numerous pieces in the outside border of your quilt top, be sure to trim it up evenly.

  • We have to pin the top and bottom of your quilt to rollers.  If it is not square or trimmed, it will not mount straight, and will therefore end up with puckers or little tucks because of excess or uneven fabric.

  • Prices are subject to change without notice.

Thread

  • We have many colors of thread to choose from.

  • Single color thread is included in the quilting price.

  • Monofilament and specialty threads are available for an extra charge of $15.

  • Multiple thread colors ...

    • Primary thread color (no charge).

    • Additional thread colors, $2 each.

Hanging Sleeve

The cost is $0.25 / linear inch.

How to Calculate Linear Inches:

Quilt top (width + length) x 2

​Example for Double/Full:

80"W + 90"L = 170" x 2 = 340 linear inches

​

How to Calculate Square Inches:

Quilt top width x length

Example for Double/Full:

80"W x 90"L = 7,200 square inches

Batting

  • We use top quality batting products with many weights to choose from.

  • Quotations are available upon request.

  • Please note ... you are always welcome to provide the batting of your choice.

Binding Service

  • Includes machine sewing to the front of your quilt and hand sewing to the back.

  • Yardage requirements will be determined according to the individual quilt size and design.

  • The cost is $0.30 / linear inch for a standard rectangular quilt.

Standard Quilt Sizes:

  • Crib (45" x 60")

  • Twin (68" x 90")

  • Double/Full (80" x 90")

  • Queen (90" x 96")

  • King (96" x 108")

  • XL King (120" x 120")

Custom Quilt Label

A custom quilt label will be provided at no cost for every quilt that is either pieced or machine quilted by Kimali Designs.  It is just our way of saying "Thank You" for entrusting us with your quilt.

Discounts

A 10% discount is given on all quilting related services to all customers who are age 65 and over; or who can provide proof of a valid quilt guild membership.

Return Shipping Charges

All return shipping charges will be billed to the customer.  A quotation will be provided upon request.

Payment

No deposit is required.  However, full payment is required upon completion of all quilting services.  Any unpaid quilts will be donated to a charity of our choice when the account is thirty (30) days past due from the date the customer was notified of the completion of the quilting related service.  A $25 Returned Check Fee will be assessed for all checks returned by the bank for any reason (ex. insufficient funds, account closure, etc.)
